Dear friends,
Teachers and students of a Special corrective boarding school for children with hearing difficulties #5 of the city of Kaluga recently have asked us for help in buying special hearing aid devices.
Thanks to your care, generosity and participation in contributing money for hearing impaired children, we raised 2543 USD in March 2006. Evans added 1457 dollars, and the total amount financed the hearing aid devices for two children: Vanya Belov and Ira Praporshilkova.
We visited them in Kaluga to give over the hearing aids to the kids at the special school, which they attend. Vanya's hearing was much stronger, his speech was clearer, and he and his mother were delighted to receive the expensive and otherwise unattainable device. His hearing aid cost was $1096.
Ira, being a teenage girl and hearing almost nothing in a group situation was very shy and felt awkward in our presence. She came well prepared - with a box of chocolates and handmade embroidery. Unfortunately, she couldn’t follow the discussion and couldn't wait to put the new hearing aid on, but needed to do it at home. It turned out that her device was much more expensive - $2917, and so are the devices for other kids with stronger hearing problem.
We are very happy that we could help Vanya and Ira. However, there are still tens of other children needing the hearing devices in this school for around $3,000 each. And, unfortunately, they need to be changed every four years. These children do everything possible to succeed in school. They study music and excel at sports, but their development is inhibited by extremely limited hearing. We learned that, unfortunately, the children will stay in the specialized school even with the devices, contrary to our previous understanding. However, with the proper hearing aid, and, if successfully finish the secondary school, they can continue their education in a regular university.
And this can be accomplished with your help!
We are collecting funds to assist these children and would be grateful should you wish to participate. Any contribution is very welcome. We will publish the information on the help provided and about the progress of these children. Your help can make a difference in the lives of these children!
